Which session is right for our family?
Outdoor Family Photo Session: I will usually recommend outdoor photo sessions for couples or families that are looking to have a more spontaneous feel to their images. While I do photograph naturally posed portraits both outdoors and in the studio, the outdoor setting can provide the opportunity to move around more freely. This results in a more unscripted feel to in your family photos. Should you be considering having your family pet attend the session or if you have young children, these outdoor locations can provide more opportunities to explore and play which will result in a more candid feel to your family images.
Studio Family Photo Session: A family studio session is the perfect choice if you are wanting me to capture timeless, naturally posed portraits without the unpredictability of weather or outdoor distractions. For couples and parents seeking timeless, polished images, a studio environment is a great option. I use neutral toned backdrops that we will discuss and decide on prior to your session to ensure we are selecting a backdrop that best compliments your wardrobe and home decor. Say goodbye to concerns about rain, snow and wind and experience an stress-free session ideal for keeping little ones comfortable and capturing their best expressions.
How long does a family photography session last?
Family sessions will typically run from 60 to 90 minutes depending on the age of the children in the family as well as how many family members are attending the portrait session. With younger children, this time provides lots of opportunities for small snack breaks, playing games and allowing your child to warm up to their new environment without feeling pressured. With a larger family group, this extra time also provides me with the opportunity to take photos of your entire family as a whole, in smaller groupings and individual portraits of the children as well!
What if it rains or snows on the day of our outdoor family photography session?
Calgary weather can be very unpredictable. It’s best to wait until 24hrs before to see what the weather is going to be like the day of your session. If rain, heavy winds, snow or temperatures below -10 degrees celsius are in the forecast for the day of your session, I will contact you the morning of the session to confirm whether or not the session will move forward. There is no fee to reschedule to a later date and I will do my best to get you rebooked within 10 days time weather and schedule permitting.

Pre-Session Styling Consultation
My goal is to have each and every client experience a personalized family photography session as well as create for you family photographs that are exactly what you are looking for. To better understand your goals for the session, we will have a pre-session styling and concept consultation to discuss your vision and so I can offer suggestions based on what you are looking for in your final images.
During the consultation we will discuss location options, the style of the session and wardrobe to ensure we are capturing you as your authentic self. We will also talk about what you are hoping to do with the final images. Are you wanting to have wall art for a particular room or hallway in your home or perhaps a keepsake album for your coffee table? Our conversation will help me get to know you better and to ensure that I can plan a session that is tailored just for you!
Photo Session Day
With over 14 years experience photographing family portraits and working with small children means that I’m prepared for the unexpected and know how to work efficiently while still keeping your family session fun. Your family photography session is meant to be a joyful time for your family, not something you’re dreading. I’m confident in my ability to make your family photoshoot run as smoothly as possible and promise you that you are in good hands! Whether you have decided to have your family photos taken in studio or at an outdoor location, let’s transform fleeting moments into tangible memories that you’ll cherish for years to come.
Viewing and Ordering Appointment
This is the exciting moment when you get to view the best images from your family photography session! This appointment will take place approximately 2 weeks after your session. Your viewing and ordering appointment will take place at my studio where you will be presented with the best images from your session projected onto a large 65” 4K screen. We will then review the images individually so that you can select your favourites and make some final decisions on how many images you would like to purchase. You will also have the opportunity at this point to preview and touch all the incredible products my studio offers.
It is important that all those family members participating in the photography session do set the time aside to come in to view and select their favourite images at this appointment. Delivery of Your Images
All purchased products will be available for pick up within 4 weeks of your order being placed. Any digital files ordered will be delivered via direct download.
It is not uncommon to have clients return year after year. They recognize that their children are growing up quickly and value a visual documentation through professional photographic artwork. I will always do my best to create images that co-ordinate with past sessions, so that you can build onto what we’ve already created together. This will help to keep your images fresh and evolving just like your family.
What should we wear to our family photo shoot?
Once your session has been booked, we will schedule a time to discuss the style of your session. This will offer a starting point when selecting clothing for your family to ensure what you select is most appropriate for the type of images you are hoping for. The studio will also provide you with a Styling Guide to help offer suggestions of different color combinations that work well along with tips on what to consider when selecting clothing for each family member.
My photography blog is also a great resource when planning and preparing for your session. I always tell clients that neutral tones in varying shades will always produce classic portraits that will stand the test of time, so they are by far my favourite choice!
Will I receive all the images from my family session?
It’s important to me that you have an opportunity to view the images from our time together during your family session before making any decisions on how many images you would like to purchase. I only want you to purchase the images YOU love most. At your viewing and ordering appointment you will have the opportunity to make some decisions on how many images you would like to purchase and what print products will work best to display your final portraits. Image collations include 6, 12, 20 or 30 images.
What kind of products do you offer in studio?
All the products I offer in studio are printed at the best professional print labs in the world. Using the highest grade inks and printers available today. My product line up includes frameless mounted prints, gorgeous hand crafted heirloom albums, framed wall portraits, acrylic mounts and stunning matted prints. Any option you select with be sure to make a statement in your home. Please contact the studio for a full product price list.
How do we book a photography session with you?
Once we have connected and I’ve had a chance to discuss all the details with you and I have answered any additional questions you may have, a booking contract containing all your session details as well as my studio policies will be sent to review and sign electronically. I do also require that a session fee be paid to hold and confirm your chosen session date & time. The session fee can be paid via credit card or E-Transfer. The session fee is non-refundable but can be moved to an alternate session date & time should you need to reschedule. Once the booking contract & session fee have been received, you are officially booked and we can start planning and preparing for your upcoming photography session!
